Jay Inslee finally agrees to debate James Watkins, WA-01

New TV Ad - "Jay Inslee, Party Puppet" from James Watkins for Congress on Vimeo.

"After persistent stalling, Inslee agrees to a date after voting has begun, on a day the press will be focused on President Clinton’s visit.

WHEN:Monday, October 18
6 p.m. doors open. 7 p.m. start time.
Ferry Schedule Seattle to Bainbridge:

WHERE:
American Legion Colin Hyde Post 172
7880 Bucklin Hill Rd NE
Bainbridge Island, WA 98110

WHAT:
James Watkins, candidate for the 1st congressional district, will finally have the chance to debate Jay Inslee, after many weeks of Inslee ducking. The American Legion on Bainbridge Island has agreed to host the only debate Inslee will agree to.

While voters in the 1st District deserve a chance to hear the two candidates debate in a critical election year, the Watkins campaign is aware that news media election coverage will likely be preoccupied with Pres. Bill Clinton’s visit the same day, who is appearing in support of Patty Murray.

Watkins is not surprised this Inslee agreed to this date out of political expediency. “Inslee seems to prefer avoiding public coverage of his voting record,” he says. “He voted for trillions of dollars in deficit spending and stood against regulating Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac back when it wasn’t too late to prevent our current economic crisis.”

Despite the low turnout of press due to Clinton’s visit, Watkins is eager to engage Inslee in a long-awaited formal debate and wants the voters to have a chance to actually see it.

Watkins stands with 1st District voters in supporting good government principles of transparency, independence, and fiscal responsibility. Inslee voted for a budget with a $1.34 trillion deficit and watched as Boeing cut 30,000 jobs."
