Bus advertising of hatred toward Israel called off in Seattle
The Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign (SMAC) planned to incite anger in the U.S., specifically King County, against sending money to Israel by running some ads on metro buses. The message “ISRAELI WAR CRIMES: Your Tax Dollars At Work” had been approved and accepted by King County officials to run on 12 buses.
While the guidelines state ads can be run as long as they don't interfere with public safety or insult specific groups to the point that a riot could be incited, vandalism could occur, or public safety threatened, King County Metro Transit spokesperson Linda Thielke said the ads can't be rejected just because they might offend someone.
After receiving hundreds of complaints, mostly outside King County, King County Executive Dow Constantine halted the decision to run the ads because of disruptions they could cause.
