Freedom from Religion Foundation picking on Yakima City Council tradition

Gonzalo Guillén complained about the Yakima City Council's practice of opening meetings with an invocation. He happens to be a member of the Freedom from Religion Foundation and has been for several years.


Guillén said he began paying attention to City Hall politics after Sonia Rodriguez was appointed to the council two years ago. He didn't like that Yakima voters preferred Ettl to her.


After he began watching council meetings on the city's website, he noticed the "one-sidedness" of the invocations. "What's happening, every one of their prayers is in the Lord's name and whatnot."

Freedom from Religion Foundation, one of those groups that gleefully believe prayer in government is something they have the power to stamp out, is supporting him.
