"And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift of God?" -- Thomas Jefferson

"And yet the same revolutionary belief for which our forbears fought is still at issue around the globe, the belief that the rights of man come not from generosity of the state but from the hand of God." -- John F. Kennedy

"Because of their belief that power had come from God to each individual, the Framers began the Constitution with the words 'we the people'" -- Newt Gingrich

"There's never been a nation like the United States, ever. It begins with the principles of our founding documents, principles that recognize that our rights come from God, not from our government." -- Marco Rubio

Richland, Washington, youth concerned for homeless in area

Devin Fisher Morasch of West Richland, Washington, believes some people fall on hard luck through no fault of their own; and the plight of such people concerns him. Unlike many a fourth grader, his concern is deep.

Since the beginning of last summer, Devin has been working at small jobs, doing chores, having garage sales, and even putting up a lemonade stand so that he could raise money to give to the Union Gospel Mission in Pasco.

"Homeless people aren't any worse or better than anybody else, and God wants us to love everyone. God says to treat your neighbors the way you want to be treated, and a bad coincidence could have happened in their life and then they ended up on the street."

Devin got involved with Raise Your Tents through Central United Protestant and through the encouragement of Pastor David Parker to find a way to show God's love and grace.  Raise Your Tents seemed like a perfect opportunity to help some people in the community while also having some fun.

He attended the event last year with his family, and one of the lectures given about the homeless in the area struck a chord with Devin.  It was a shock to hear about kids his age who were without homes or much supervision and to learn that they had to sleep on the streets and/or near the local skate park. Devin was moved to bring in a bag of change that night to donate to the mission.

"I just felt sad the first time that I ever heard this was going on, and then when I heard about Raise Your Tents, I realized that was something that I could do to help and not sit in the shade anymore."
