April 11, Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) William R. Brownfield; International Development Law Organization (IDLO) Director-General Irene Khan; and Ambassador Thomas Pickering, member of the IDLO International Advisory Council, will participate in a panel discussion on justice sector reform initiatives in Afghanistan, South Sudan, and other nations in transition.
This panel will highlight INL’s growing partnership with IDLO that allows INL to draw on the experience of the only international organization specifically dedicated to rule of law capacity building. This new relationship will allow for more cost effective programming and more intensive engagement of host nation officials and experts. INL funds IDLO’s largest and newest program, the Justice Training Transition Program (JTTP) in Afghanistan. INL and IDLO have also partnered in South Sudan, where the projects support institutions such as the Judiciary of South Sudan and the Ministry of Justice’s Legal Training Institute.
IDLO’s unique partnership with the Department of State is made possible through INL funding for legal reform, strengthening judicial institutions, addressing gender issues and inequality, and promoting peace.
To attend or for more information regarding INL programs, contact: INL’s Office of Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy at INL-PAPD@state.gov.
